Leave from Sterling Forest Visitor’s Center upper lot.  We’ll start by hiking the Bare Rock Trail to the Bare Rock vista.  After a short break we will continue on the Bare Rock Trail to the Fire Tower Trail, then onto the West Valley Trail to view an abandoned beaver dam.  From there we continue on the Fire Tower Trail to a rock scramble and then lunch enjoying a view of the valley.  Next is an easy walk to the Sterling Forest Fire Tower.  After a short break we return to the car park via the Fire Tower Trail and Fire Tower Connection Trail.  Call 917-319-3166 before 7:00 AM if the weather is questionable.  TC Sterling Forest Trails map 100.

Meet at the parking area 0.5 miles north of the Fort Montgomery Museum on Route 9W (0.7 miles north of the Bear Mt. Traffic Circle).  (Hikers are NOT allowed to leave cars in the museum lot.)  Type “9W parking, 708 Rt 9W, Highland Falls, NY 10928” into GPS.  Look for orange Subaru.  Hike along the Popolopen Gorge Trail with stream below, and then follow a challenging scrambling climb up exposed rock faces.  The descent is steep and rocky, and leads to a walk around Brook Lake before heading back to the parking lot.  Optional additional mileage involves a walk over to the Bear Mountain Zoo (depending on Covid) with spectacular views of the Hudson and a walk through the outside grounds of the Fort Montgomery museum.  Ch. 26 in Circuit Hikes in Harriman by Don Weise.  Severe inclement weather cancels.  Northern Harriman Trails map 119.

Meet at the parking lot off Mountain Road about 2 mi. east of Route 9W in Cornwall on Hudson.  We start our hike taking the Stillman Trail to the Bluebird Trail.  Using a series of switchbacks we summit Storm King Mountain where we will have lunch on rock ledges with panoramic views.  Rain cancels hike.  This is a strenuous climb.  (Meeting coordinates 41.432191, -74.012237.)  TC West Hudson Trails map 113.

Depart from Otterkill Road parking lot.  We’ll ascend the Western Ridge by the Trestle Trail to Western Ridge where we can see Newburgh and on a good day the Catskills.  Then down the Sweet Clover Trail to the Barton Swamp Trail where the track follows Baby Brook.  We then scramble up using the Ridge to Ridge Trail to join the Jessup Trail, hiking on the Eastern Ridge.  We then take the White Trail to view one of the park’s attractions, ‘The Megaliths,’ and lunch.  From here we continue along the Jessup, enjoying the views of the Hudson Valley and Storm King.  Finally we go down the Jessup to the Otterkill Trail and back to the car park.  Not for beginners.  Call cell phone before 7:00 AM if weather is questionable.  TC West Hudson Trails map 114.

Meet on Route 9W 1.4 miles south of the Bear Mountain Traffic Circle or type “Doodletown Trailhead, Dunderberg Turnpike, Tomkins Cove” into Google Maps.  The small parking area is on the east side of 9W.  (If Anthony Wayne opens, the meeting point will be changed.)  This hike follows the 1777 trail to the southbound SBT up to the West Mtn shelter, north across the ridge of West Mtn, over to the Red Fawn Trail, and then 1777 back to the cars.  Beautiful views and strenuous climbs.  TC Northern Harriman Trails map 119.

Meet at the Washburn and Cornish trailheads parking area (opposite Little Stony Point park) which is located on the east side of Route 9D, approximately 0.7 mile north of its intersection with Route 301 in Putnam County.  Please be informed that there is a very long and steep climb at the beginning of the hike, with other shorter ones to follow before reaching the summit of Mt.
