We start at 9:15 AM sharp, crossing the street and heading east on the Tamarack Loop (P) Trail to the Yellow (Y) Trail going north for about 2.5 miles all the way to Twin Hill and back on the Schuber (O) Trail going west and south to the return leg of the Tamarack Loop (P) and to the parking lot area. We then take the Overlook Rock (W) Trail northwest, looping around to the Overlook Rock where we catch the view of Lake Sonoma. This is the first of a series of 5 hikes where we will hike the Appalachian Trail from the NY/NJ Border to the Hudson River. These are all shuttle hikes. Sections of the AT are strenuous. Peanut Leap Cascade, Giant Steps, and Women’s Federation Monument

9:00 AM at State Line Lookout parking lot in Alpine NJ (fee may be required). A beautiful hike in the Palisades Interstate Park, we will hike old Rt 9W to the Long Path down to the stunning Peanut Leap Cascade waterfall. We will then travel along the shore Trail of the Hudson until we hit the giant steps rock scramble (a 1.2 mile long horizontal rock scramble over boulders). Mid-way on this scramble there is a nice spot to stop to have lunch. Afterwards we will climb back up to the top of the palisades cliffs to see the Women’s Federation Monument. Then it’s a short turn back to the parking lot along the entry road. Meet 9:00 AM at the parking lot at 610 Ramapo Valley Road, Mahwah, NJ. We start at 9:15 AM sharp on the Yellow Blaze Trail at the southwest corner of the parking lot. Then we take the northern side of the Blue Blaze loop to Yellow Blaze Vista loop going east. At the Hawk Rock we make a left on the Green Halifax Trail following the Havemeyer Hollow ridge. We make a left on the Purple Havemeyer Trail crossing the White Blaze Trail to the Blue Blaze loop. We make a right on the Blue Blaze Loop and take it back to the parking lot, with an optional side trip to the Ridge Overlook. This hike is moderate to strenuous. Severe inclement weather cancels. AM Hike Kittaninny Valley State Park

We will hike around the park utilizing the Twin Lakes, Mt. Nebo, Glacial, Explorer and Andover Junction Trails (see Kittaninny Valley Trail in AllTrails). The hike will be faster paced (2.5mi/hr), the 7.0-7.5m Trail is largely flat (except for a small climb at the beginning) with views of a number of lakes and stopping for a snack/breakfast at Wawayanda Lake.
